Our client, a leading European company operating at the forefront of precision engineering and innovation, is renowned for advancing solutions across the mobility, energy and infrastructure sectors. As part of its digital transformation journey, the organization adopted using Dassault Systèmes’ Cameo Systems Modeler and Siemens Polarion for

However, operating these critical platforms in isolation created productivity bottlenecks and disrupted traceability across the development lifecycle. Engineering teams faced fragmented toolchains, siloed data and limited synchronization of requirements, architectural elements and test cases.

To overcome these challenges and establish a seamless digital thread, the client partnered with us to deploy HCLTech . This enterprise-grade integration enabled bidirectional data flow, streamlined collaboration across MBSE and ALM domains and significantly enhanced end-to-end traceability, accelerating development cycles and improving systems engineering outcomes.

The challenge

Disconnected MBSE and ALM environments hindered traceability and productivity

The client required a scalable and configurable solution to unify their systems engineering (Cameo) and ALM (Polarion) platforms. The lack of automated synchronization between the two tools led to fragmented workflows, siloed collaboration and traceability gaps across architecture elements, requirements, test cases and validations. Engineering teams had to manually export, transform and align data —slowing development cycles, increasing the risk of inconsistencies in the digital thread and delaying compliance documentation. This disconnected approach severely limited end-to-end visibility, posing challenges in complex, safety-critical development programs.

The Objective

Enable seamless, traceable and bi-directional interoperability between MBSE and ALM

The core objective was to establish a robust, configurable integration framework between the client’s MBSE (Cameo) and ALM (Polarion) platforms, ensuring synchronized, bi-directional data exchange across architecture elements, requirements, test cases and validation workflows.

Our teams set out to work natively within the Cameo environment while seamlessly pushing and pulling data from Polarion. This integration aimed to reduce manual effort, maintain end-to-end traceability across the digital thread and enhance collaboration between system architects, engineers and QA teams, without disrupting existing development processes.

Our solution

HCLTech Cameo Connectors: Seamless interoperability between MBSE and ALM

We implemented Cameo Connector for Polarion and Teamcenter — a lightweight, configurable middleware solution designed to bridge engineering silos and embed digital continuity across the client’s MBSE and ALM ecosystems.

HCLTech Cameo Connector: Seamless interoperability between MBSE and ALM

Key capabilities

  • Native integration within Cameo Users can access and import Polarion-defined items (e.g., requirements, test cases) directly into the Cameo model from within the Cameo interface, ensuring engineers operate in their familiar environment.
  • Bi-directional traceability mapping Architecture elements and derived requirements created in Cameo are seamlessly pushed into Polarion, ensuring real-time, audit-ready traceability across both platforms.
  • Configurable and selective data exchange The connector supports tailored synchronization rules, allowing only the required data to be exchanged, reducing complexity, noise and potential inconsistencies.
  • Large dataset synchronization Designed for enterprise-grade scalability, the connector is optimized to support high-volume data exchange between Cameo and Polarion with minimal performance degradation.
  • Digital thread enablement Enables a centralized, Polarion-governed digital thread that integrates MBSE models, requirements, validations and test artifacts, empowering cross-domain visibility and lifecycle alignment.

The solution was deployed in a controlled pilot phase with four initial users, with full-scale rollout planned for mid-2025. Engineers were also enabled to manage and operate the integration independently, minimizing long-term support dependencies.

The impact

Traceable digital thread. Scalable performance. Empowered engineering.

HCLTech Cameo Connector integration delivered measurable value across the client’s engineering lifecycle—enhancing productivity, collaboration and compliance:

  • Improved productivity: Significant reduction in manual export/ transform/ import cycles. Engineers now work natively within Cameo while seamlessly accessing Polarion artifacts, eliminating manual exports and data reconciliation.
  • End-to-end traceability: Seamless traceability between architecture elements, derived requirements and tests across MBSE and ALM environments, ensuring audit-ready traceability and stronger quality assurance.
  • Integrated digital thread: MBSE models are now managed as part of a Polarion-governed digital thread, driving lifecycle alignment and cross-domain visibility.
  • Scalable performance: The solution supports large, complex datasets with optimized performance, adapting to evolving project needs.
  • User-driven adoption: A successful limited rollout (4 users) validated usability and impact, with full-scale deployment planned for mid-2025.

By bridging MBSE and ALM platforms, the engagement empowered engineering teams to shift focus from tool management to innovation, accelerating time-to-market and reinforcing system integrity in safety-critical environments.

Looking Ahead

Scaling enterprise-wide integration for future-ready digital engineering

Following a successful limited deployment, the client is now preparing for full-scale rollout of the HCLTech Cameo Connector across global product teams. As product complexity grows and systems engineering standards evolve, the roadmap includes:

  • Expanding adoption across engineering divisions and user groups
  • Integrating with broader PLM/ALM ecosystems, including Siemens Teamcenter
  • Enhancing traceability insights with analytics and real-time dashboards
  • Accelerating design iterations and validation cycles through intelligent synchronization
  • Ensuring continuous compliance with industry-specific engineering standards

Through deep engineering expertise and accelerators like the Cameo Connector, we are facilitating our clients to engineer smarter, collaborate deeper and innovate faster, driving scalable digital transformation across the product lifecycle.
